TUCSON--No. 3-ranked Arizona plays host to its Worth Wildcat Invitational softball tournament Friday through Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium. The round-robin action features UA, North Carolina State, Pacific, Texas Tech, Tennessee Tech and Missouri.

Game 1 - 9 a.m. Friday - NC State 6, Pacific 4

Pinch-hitter Miranda Ervin smacked a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to lift North Carolina State, 6-4, to victory over Pacific in Game 1 of the Worth Wildcat Invitational softball tournament Friday morning.

Ironically, it followed a pinch-hit homer by Lindsey Garehime that had given UOP a 4-2 lead in the top of the frame.

Pacific left fielder Brittany Hyams drew a bases-loaded walk off Megan Dalthorp in the top of the fourth to drive in the Tigers' first run. Kristin Allen led off with a double, Lauren Weyman hit a bunt single and with two out, Crystal Presson drew a walk to put three aboard.

N.C. State (5-3) got four hits in the sixth, including RBi singles by Jennifer Chamberlin and Jennifer Patterson. UOP pitcher Chelsea Engle had been sailing along with two-hit pitching until that point.

The Tigers (2-3) tied the game in the top of the seventh with one-out hits by Gina Carbonatto, Casey Goldsand and Jennifer Curtier, and an RBI single by Kristin Allen.

Game 2 - Friday - Pacific 7, Texas Tech 0

Alyce Jorgensen led the way for Pacific (3-3) in a, 7-0, win over Texas Tech (2-5) in the second game of the Worth Wildcat Invitational on Friday.

Pacific's bats came to life in the bottom of the third, when the Tigers used two walks and a pair of base hits to score the game's first two runs. With two out and one on, Jennifer Curtier singled to load the bases. Freshman right fielder Lauren Weyman came through for the Tigers with a two-run single to left, giving UOP a, 2-0, lead.

UOP extended its lead to 3-0 next frame, when the Tigers took advantage of two Texas Tech errors to score an unearned run.

The Tigers cemented their lead in the fifth on a three-run homer off the bat of Lizzie Hagen, making it a 6-0 affair.

Game 3 - Friday - Tennessee Tech 5, Texas Tech 2

Tennessee Tech (2-1) defeated Texas Tech (2-5), 5-2, in the third game of the Worth Wildcat Invitational. Tennessee Tech jumped out to a, 3-0, lead in the first inning and never looked back.
