Tucson, Ariz. - The Arizona men's tennis team completed day two of competition at the University of San Diego All-Collegiate Tournament in San Diego, Calif., on Saturday.
In Flight 1 of third round singles, the Wildcats split their matches. Sophomore Whi Kim cruised by Jason Pongsrikul of San Diego, 6-3, 6-2 and senior Bruno Arapovic fell to Juan Cerda of San Diego in a tough match, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Kim moves on to the singles championships on Sunday.
In Flight 2 of third round singles, freshman Colin O'Grady topped Peter Surapol of UC Irvine, 6-2, 6-3. O'Grady will also move on to the singles championships on Sunday.
The Wildcats lost both of their first round matches on the doubles side. Sophomore Roeland Bratianu and O'Grady lost to the team of Hasson and Coren of San Diego State, 8-3 and Arapovic and Paul Rosen fell to the team of Morton and Schroeder of UC San Diego, 8-6. Kim and sophomore Carl Hagman received a first-round bye in doubles, but were defeated by the team of Wilson and Hoffman of UC San Diego, 9-8, in the second round.
The University of San Diego All-Collegiate Tournament features the following teams: Arizona, California Polytechnic, Loyola Marymount, Oregon, San Diego, San Diego State, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
Sunday's schedule of play is as follows: Flight 1 & 2 Championships 9:00 a.m. Doubles Championship 10:30 a.m.
The Arizona men's tennis team next travels to Tempe, Ariz., Oct. 19-21, for the ASU Thunderbird Collegiate Invitational.
