TUCSON, Ariz.- The 15th-ranked Arizona volleyball team downed No. 21 Pacific in its final match at the Nike Pacific Invitational in Stockton, Calif., Saturday night. Game scores were 30-27, 20-30, 32-30, 30-23. The Wildcats, who swept St. Mary's 3-0 earlier on Saturday, improve to 5-3 for the season while Pacific drops to 4-4 overall.
Both schools struggled offensively in the match as Arizona posted a .152 hitting percentage while Pacific managed a slightly better .184. Arizona tallied 60 kills to the Tigers 50 and out dug them 61 to 54.
Freshman Kim Glass, who was named the invitational MVP, led the way for Arizona, tallying a career-high 21 kills on .348 hitting and also added 15 digs in the win. She finished the weekend with 50 kills in Arizona's three matches.
Joining Glass on the all-invitational team was senior Lisa Rutledge who finished the match with the Tigers with 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Laurie Gardner posted 44 assists and 10 digs in the win.
The Wildcats open Pac-10 play next weekend, hosting 14th-ranked UCLA and No.2 USC on Friday and Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
