Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller:

Opening Statement:

"I was very excited and I don't want to use the word surprised because I never am surprised at the passion of our fan base, but to have that many people at the football game last night and then the number of people that came to the game today (10,675) was amazing. I want to thank everyone who came for the Red-Blue game."

On Jordin Mayes:

"He comes to our program with having been on championship teams. You can tell he's getting better and he will be a big asset to our team not just this year but in the future. I liked the way he played today, he was real poise."

On Kyryl Natyazhko:

"Kyryl is having a hard time finishing close to the basket. He's making strong moves to the basket and when he's able to flip that switch and start making those baskets will really define him as a player. You saw tonight, that he is sometimes more comfortable facing the basket from about 15-feet out."

On Derrick Williams:

"He has terrific hands and he's getting to the foul line. He practices hard every day. He is not a selfish player."

On Kevin Parrom's injury:

"He suffered a concussion last week during practice. We need him back. He's very versatile. He's another physical wing player for us. In practice he was going for a loose ball and he fell down and bumped his head pretty hard."

On their attack game:

"We had the same slogan last year playing with a lot of pace and a lot of movement and defensively pressuring the ball. A lot of what we want to do is have an attacking mentality. We want to play hard."

#12 Lamont Jones - So. Guard

On presence of fans:

"Great. It felt great to have the fans there. We've put in a lot of hard work behind doors, and no one has seen us for a long, long, long time. It felt good to finally show what we have been working on."

On the freshmen:

"They have been impressing me since day one and are impressing me more and more every day. [Daniel Bejarano] especially with the conditioning he puts in. Jordin has come a long way, he impresses me every day and there is a lot I think I can teach him as well as a lot he can teach me. I think we can feed off each other throughout the season to improve."

#24 Brendon Lavendar - Jr. Guard

On back flip:

"I had heard of the phrase round-off back flip; I wanted to do something that would get the crowd on my side, and I think it worked. The last time I did a back flip was two or three years ago on a trampoline. Before went out there Coach said not to do any flips or anything because a (former) player of his tore up his knee or something but I just went out there and did it. I think afterwards he was more shocked than anything."

On competition between team members:

"I don't know what Coach has in store for us, I just focus on working harder. I will do whatever I need to to help the team win, so I don't really see it as competition for playing time."

On changes from this point last season:

"I think most of the changes I have made are mental. I am more determined to help the team. I mean, whatever I have to do to help the team win I will do whether that be to make passes, or make shots, I just want to help the team win."

#23 Derrick Williams - So. Forward

On what fans should take away:

"I think we played a lot harder than last year. Even last year's red and blue game even Coach said we left a lot on the court. We had a lot more freshman last year, and we thought of it more as fans coming to watch our open gym. This year though it was a lot more business; I think we are playing more as a team and just playing a lot harder."

On his work on inside defense:

"To improve I worked on basically everything; I spent the summer going to camps and playing against bigger players. I worked on getting stronger in the weight room and playing against Kryl who has a big body. Basically I just worked to get stronger."

On "attack" mentality:

"We've spent a lot of time working to attack practice from the beginning. It used to take us like 30 minutes to start up and practices would take up to two and a half to three hours, and now we are getting done in about two hours. We are more determined and we want to win."
