TUCSON, Ariz. - A total of six University of Arizona golfers were named to the Pac-12 Conference's golf all-Academic teams, commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Philip Bagdade, Kenji Hernandez, Erik Oja and Trent Redfern were honored by the league on the men's side, while Isabelle Boineau and Nikki Koller were honored on the women's. Hernandez and Oja were first-team selections, while Koller and Redfern were second-team picks. Bagdade and Boineau received honorable mention kudos.
Bagdade, a senior from Eugene, Ore., posted a 74.90 scoring average in 30 rounds played and tallied five rounds at par or better. He competed in 10 events in 2011-12 and notched a low of 68 to go with one top-20 finish. He was a first-team all-academic selection in 2010 and an honorable mention pick last year.
Boineau, a senior from Marseille, France, posted a 74.34 scoring average in 32 rounds played and tallied eight rounds at par or better. She competed in 11 events in 2011-12 and notched a low of 68 to go with three top-10 finishes. Boineau tied for individual medalist honors at the UNLV Invitational in February. It marks the first time that Boineau has received all-academic honors from the conference office.
Hernandez, a senior from Atizapan, Mexico, posted a 74.15 scoring average in six appearances (13 rounds) this season. His low round was a 69, which led to his best finish of the year, a tie for 14th place at the Arizona Intercollegiate in January.
Koller, a senior from Lewisburg, Ky., has been recognized by the conference for three consecutive seasons. She posted a 75.79 scoring average in 10 appearances (29 rounds) this season. Koller had five rounds at par or better with a low round of 70. She was a first-team pick in 2010 and a second-team selection in 2011.
Oja, a sophomore from Sandviken, Sweden, posted a 72.65 scoring average in 43 rounds played and tallied 19 rounds at par or better. He competed in 14 events in 2011-12 and notched a low of 66 to go with four top-10 finishes. It is his first all-academic citation from the league.
Redfern, a junior from Austin, Texas, posted a 74.97 scoring average in 12 appearances (37 rounds) this season. His low round was a 67 at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in April. His best finish was a tie for seventh place at the Gifford Collegiate Championship in November. He was an honorable mention all-academic selection last year.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 all-Academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
