TUCSON - Arizona Men's Golf sits in seventh place after the first round of the Gifford Collegiate after shooting a 370 (+15).

UA was led by Trent Redfern, whose 70 (-1) was good enough for a ninth-place individually on day one.

USC sleeps on the day-one lead. The Trojans are 10-under, three better than host UCLA. The rivals are the only teams under par in the 11-team field. Virginia shot par and is in third place after one. Washington and Oregon are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Defending individual medalist Patrick Cantlay of UCLA shot a 63 (-8) to give himself the inside track at his second straight championship. Cantlay leads the tournament by three strokes over Steve Lim of USC and Eugene Wong of Oregon. Washington's Trevor Simsby is in fourth at four-under.

Philip Bagdade is tied for 20th at one-over. Chris Capo carded a 75 (+4) and is tied for 41st. Erik Oja is tied for 50th at five-over. Tucker Wadkins shot a 77 (+6). Kenji Hernandez, who has finished in the top-20 in each of the three tournaments on the season, is tied for 68th after his first-round 80.

Two rounds remain in the Gifford Collegiate, contested at the CordeValle Golf Club, a par 71/7,200 yard course located in San Martin, Calif. The second round will be held Tuesday with the third and final round on Wednesday.
