Wildcats Finish First Day of Play

TUCSON -

The Arizona Wildcat men's tennis team sent six players to compete in the ITA Mountain Regionals in Las Vegas, Nev. Freshmen Robin Chou, Carlos Bermudez and sophomores Andre Vidaller, Mario Urquidi, Kieren Thompson and Giacomo Miccini are representing the Wildcats at the Darling Tennis Center.

"For the most part the guys did pretty well today," said head coach Tad Berkowitz. "For the guys that did well we look to keep it rolling and for those that struggled they have another opportunity to get back on track tomorrow."

In singles action, the Cats were victorious in four matches and two consolation matches. Chou defeated Lenny Whiting from Utah State and will play BYU's George Batrakov at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Vidaller defeated Stephen Katrein from Air Force and is set to play Michael Eraso from BYU at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Thompson beat Washington State's Oliver Good and advances to take on Marc Westgate of New Mexico State at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Urquidi defeated Steven Young of Air Force and will battle Matej Srakne from New Mexico State at noon on Thursday.

Bermudez was edged by Matt Sweet of Utah State but defeated Shaun Waters from NAU in consolation play. Miccini fell to Victor Ouvard from UNR but went on to defeat Marcus Fritz from Utah State in consolation singles.

In doubles play, Arizona won one match and two consolation matches. Miccini and Vidaller teamed up to defeat Alex Grubbs and Landon Kinsey from Air Force and will advance to play Wessim Derbel and Femando Sunago from UNR at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The team of Bermudez and Urquidi fell to Alex Bull and Rene Reugamer from UNLV but were victorious against Nate Ballam and Crran Weamouth from Utah State. Enej Bonin and Jens Vorkefeld from DU edged Chou and Thompson. The duo went on to defeat Diego Campos and Prithiv Sivasubramaniam from MSU.
