PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - The Arizona women's tennis team completed the second day of the qualifying tournament of the Riviera ITA All - American Championships today in Pacific Palisades, California and will send two players to the main-draw singles tournament. Junior Maja Mlakar was pre-selected to participate in the main-draw singles tournament. Fellow junior Dianne Hollands will join Mlakar thanks to two key wins today in qualifying tournament play. The two Wildcats will be playing two of the top five seeded players of the tournament tomorrow in California.
Hollands won both of her matches today to advance to tomorrow's action. She first defeated Stanford's Theresa Logar 6-0, 6-3. She then went to beat Texas's Kendra Strohm in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. In tomorrow's first round action she will compete against the fifth seed of the tournament, Stanford's Alice Barnes.
Mlakar will also open first round action tomorrow. She will be competing against third seed, Northwestern's Cristelle Grier.
The first round of the main-draw action will consist of 32 of the best female collegiate players. Main-draw singles tournament action will begin tomorrow and continue to Oct. 12.
