Two Women's Tennis Players to Compete in Pac-10 Singles Semifinals

OJAI, Calif. - The Arizona women's tennis team saw continued success Friday at the Pac-10 Tournament in Ojai, Calif. Graduate student Emilie Scribot and sophomore Maja Mlakar both advanced to the semifinals in the singles main draw.

In the quarterfinals of the singles main draw, Scribot defeated Stanford's Erin Burdette, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the semifinals, where she will face Oregon's Daria Panova. No. 39 Mlakar pulled a huge upset over ASU's No. 5 Adria Engel, 7-5, 6-4. Mlakar will face off against Cal's Raquel Kops-Jones in the semifinal on Saturday. Sophomore Kelly Perry lost her match in the invitational bracket versus Washington's Colleen Gray, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(2).

In the first round of main-draw doubles play, Arizona's duo of Mlakar and Scribot advanced to the quarterfinals with a bye, and junior Debbie Larocque teamed up with freshman Kristy Randono to advance to the quarterfinals over Stanford's Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette, who withdrew due to injury. In the invitational draw, sophomore Dianne Hollands and Perry reached the semifinals with a bye, and freshmen Kelly Duncan and Zorica Zasova withdrew from their match versus Oregon's Ester Bak and Anna Leksinska.

In the main-draw doubles quarterfinal, Larocque and Randono fell to Cal's Christina Fusano and Raquel Kops-Jones, 8-0. Mlakar and Scribot defeated USC's Tiffany Brymer and Jewel Peterson, 8-5. Mlakar and Scribot will face Claire Carter and Darija Klaic of Washington in the semifinals. In the invitational draw, Hollands and Perry defeated Washington's Andrea Coulter and Dinka Hadzic, 8-3, to advance to the semifinals, where they will face Oregon's Ester Bak and Anna Leksinska.

The women's singles back draw begins tomorrow, in which four Arizona player will compete. Larocque will face Washington's Claire Carter, Hollands will face Washington State's Lorena Arias, Randono will compete against Washington State's Zorana Roganovic, and Duncan will face off against Washington's Andrea Coulter.

Arizona will continue competition Saturday, with the semifinals in singles beginning at 9:30 a.m., and doubles semifinals starting at 3:30 p.m.
