TUCSON, Ariz. - Northwestern swept Winthrop (30-20, 30-19, 30-26) in the first match of the Four Points University Plaza Wildcat Classic at the McKale Center this evening. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season. The Eagles fall to 2-1.
Northwestern was led by Lindsay Anderson, who tallied 13 kills and 12 digs. Setter Lauren Greenwood dished out 32 assists, while Brittany Aldridge finished with seven blocks on the match.
Winthrop was paced by Mary Hock with 12 kills and Taryn Surbaugh with 10. Setter Chandra Ginest finished with 27 assists.
Winthrop faces No. 17 Arizona in the second match of the tournament at 10 a.m. (MST) tomorrow, Sept. 3. Northwestern will then play No. 20 Georgia Tech at noon.
