SAN DIEGO - The University of Arizona men's tennis doubles teams split 1-1 on the second day of the San Diego State University Invitational at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.  Tom Wolff and Frank Chen cruised to a victory in the consolation bracket, while senior Jay Goldman fell in his third round singles match, but Wildcat singles players Chen, Wolff and David Humphreys, split 1-1 on the day.

In the second round of doubles competition, Mario Urquidi and David Humphreys dropped an 8-4 match against German Bahri and Jacob Hartwig of the University of San Francisco. Urquidi and Humphreys advanced to the second round after topping Jose Sierra Short/Sangwan of San Diego State yesterday 8-4.

After falling in yesterday's first round of doubles competition to the University of California, San Diego's Jake Fellow and Junya Yoshida 8-6, Wolff and Chen bounced back and defeated Quoc Doan and Kevin Griffin of UC Riverside 8-5 in the consolation bracket.

In singles competition, in Bracket A/B senior Goldman fell in a narrow first set, 7-5, to Clarke Spinosa of the University of San Diego. Spinosa also cruised to a 6-4 second set victory.

Urquidi who dropped both of his singles matches yesterday, fell in a close three-set tiebreaker in the consolation bracket of A/B to Tomasz Kryzkowski of the University of Pacific. Kryzkowski picked up the first set 6-3, but like yesterday's singles match Urquidi fought back and claimed the second set 6-3. In the tiebreaker, the two battled, but Kryszkowski edged out Urquidi 10-6. In the second consolation match, Urquidi fell to Erik Elliot of UCSD in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The sophomore dropped the first set 6-2, bounced back and won 6-4 in the second set and then topped Mora in the tiebreaker 10-6.

In the consolation bracket of C/D, Wolff came out in the same fashion as he did in his first match yesterday. Wolff cruised to a two set victory, 6-3, 6-2 against Armaun Emami of UCSD. In his second match of the day, Wolff fell to Behri in a narrow first set 7-5 and then was swept in the second set 6-0.

Humphreys, like Wolff came out victorious in his first singles match of the day in the consolation bracket of C/D. Humphreys swept Peder Steen of USF 6-2, 6-0. After that, in his second match of the day Humphreys dropped the first set 6-2 to Devon Sousa of UCSD, bounced back in the second set by topping Sousa 6-1, but fell in a 10-6 tiebreaker.
