Women's Golf Slips to Fifth Place at PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona slipped into fifth place Saturday at the PING/ASU Invitational after shooting a 12-over-par 300 in the tournament's second round. The Wildcats are at 18-over-par 594 for the tournament, 13 strokes behind leader California.

Freshman Erica Blasberg played an up-and-down round before finishing the day at even-par 72. Her two-day total of 1-over-par 145 places her in a tie for sixth place, eight shots off the individual lead.

California leads the tournament with 18 holes still to be played. The Golden Bears sit at 5-over-par 581 after a second-round 293. Texas is in second place at 9-over par. UCLA and Southern California are in third and fourth places, respectively. Charlotte Mayorkas of UCLA posted her second consecutive subpar round to maintain the individual lead. She stands at 7-under-par 137 entering the final round.

 
 

Through 15 holes, the Wildcats stood at 3-over par. But the team combined to shoot 9-over on the final three holes, dropping them into fifth place.

Freshman Cassandra Kirkland shot a 6-over 78 to bring her two-day score to 150 (+6) and is tied for 25th. Senior Anne Lee, from Northridge, Calif., joins Kirkland in a tie for 25th after shooting 7-over-par 79 Saturday. Lee's 36-hole score is also 150 (+6).

Senior Laura Myerscough and sophomore Mar Garcia stand tied for 43rd place at 9-over-par 153. Myerscough carded a second-round of 3-over-par 75, while Garcia shot 5-over-par 77. Garcia competing as an individual and her score does not count towards Arizona's team score. Sophomore Miriam Kraschinski rounded out the Wildcat lineup and is tied for 64th place. Freshman Whitney Welch, also competing as an individual, shot 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 77th place.

The tournament concludes Sunday with tee-times running from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
