HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Jim Furyk won his second event in eight tries this season, and collected his 15th career PGA Tour victory with a playoff win over Brian Davis at the Verizon Heritage on Sunday. Ricky Barnes finished tied for fifth and Rory Sabbatini tied for 14th.
After not making the cut a week ago in the Masters, Furyk rebounded with a 13-under performance at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C. to claim victory in the Verizon Heritage. Furyk held at least a share of the lead after each day of competition.
Brian Davis, Furyk's Sunday playing partner, birdied the 18th to force a playoff with the Arizona alumn. The two, both at 13-under, would head back to replay the hole 18.
The playoff would be a bizarre one. Furyk shot a par-four, but Davis called a two-stroke penalty on himself, ultimately conceding the title to Furyk.
Fresh off a top-10 finish in the Masters, Barnes placed in the top-10 once again, marking the third time this season.
Barnes, who entered the day two strokes off the lead, finished nine-under.
Rory Sabbatini shot a 67 (-5) to move 37 spots up the leaderboard and into a tie for 14th. Sabbatini carded a first round 74 (+2), but rebounded with three rounds in the sixties to post a top-20 finish.
This is Sabbatini's best finish of the year since finishing second in the SBS Championship earlier this year.
