LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The No. 61-ranked University of Arizona men's tennis team snapped their nine match losing streak today, topping No. 50 Boise State 4-2, for the second time this season. Senior Andres Carrasco clinched the match in the Wildcats' final regular season dual match today in Las Cruces, N.M. at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.

"The guys have dealt with a lot of adversity this year," said head coach Tad Berkowitz. "I'm proud that they had a solid win to end the regular season."

The Wildcats (9-14, 0-6 Pac-10) and Broncos (15-14, 2-3 WAC) started the day in singles action with Arizona edging out the Broncos in four out of the six matches.

Boise State jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Nathan Sereke downed senior Geoff Embry in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. The Wildcats answered by balancing the score at 1-1 when sophomore Frank Chen posted his first singles match win of the season in the No. 6 spot. Chen notched the win over Erik Sheldon in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5.

The Wildcats then took the 2-1 lead after Mario Urquidi dispatched Jeff Mullen in a three-setter in the No. 5 spot. After dropping the first set 6-0, the freshman came back to claim the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to secure his eighth dual match of the year.

Freshman Giacomo Miccini kept Arizona's momentum flowing, padding the Wildcats' lead to 3-1. Miccini downed Scott Sears in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 slot.

The Broncos' captured their second and final point of the day in the No. 3 spot after Flipp Pogostkin posted a win over Andre Vidaller. In the first set, Pogostkin topped Vidaller 6-4 and then edged out the freshman in a tough 7-6 (12-10) tiebreaker.

In the final singles match of the day, with the score 3-2 in favor of the Wildcats, Carrasco earned his 68th career singles match win and topped off his dual match career by clinching the match over Andrew Bettles in three sets. Carrasco claimed the first set 6-4, dropped the second set 4-6, and then secured the 7-5 third set to seal the match and the win for the Wildcats.

Doubles was not played since Arizona had already clinched the match.

Arizona earned its first win since March 6 when the Wildcats downed New Mexico State 6-1 at home. The win also marks the second road win for the Wildcats this season and the first win of the season over a higher ranked opponent.

The Wildcats improve to 9-14, 0-6 Pac-10 while the Broncos drop to 15-14, 2-3 WAC. Arizona will now head to Ojai, Calif. to compete in the Pac-10 Championships on April 28. Singles and doubles lineups to be announced later this week.
