TUCSON, Ariz.- The 14th-ranked Pepperdine volleyball team put together an all-around game in the final match of the Wildcat Classic in McKale Center Saturday night, defeating host school and 11th-ranked Arizona 3-0 in the process. Game scores were 30-27, 31-29, 30-14.
The Waves rarely missed on a night that saw them blister the McKale Center floor to the tune of a .430 team hitting percentage. Pepperdine racked up 56 kills on 114 swings while committing just seven errors in the sweep. Meanwhile, the Arizona offense continued to struggle, as the Wildcats posted a sub-.300 attack percentage for the second consecutive match.
Arizona freshman Kim Glass led all players with a match-high 20 kills. However, the fine individual effort for the Wildcats was negated by Pepperdine's starting six.
All six Pepperdine starters finished the match with a .300-plus hitting percentage. Led by sophomore Brie Harris' 12 kills on .571 hitting, juniors Lindsey Hache and Katie Wilkins chipped in with 11 kills on .500 hitting and 13 kills on .414 hitting respectively.
Arizona completed the weekend with a 1-2 record in its home tournament which droped its overall record to an even 3-3 on the season. The Wildcats will take to the road next weekend to Stockton, Calif., to play in Pacific's Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Arizona will face the 13th-ranked Tigers, St. Mary's (Calif.) and British Columbia in the two-day event.
