NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans Announced

TUCSON , Ariz. - The 2010 Scholastic All-American Honors were awarded by the NACGC/W this last Friday. Among those to receive this honor were five Arizona GymCats, including RS Senior Miranda Russell, Sarah Tomczyk, Jamie Custer, Alexis Greene, and Bree Workman.

Returning RS senior Miranda Russell was also recognized for a 3.67 GPA as a Spanish major. Russell also earned Pac-10 All-Conference Academic Honors for the 2010 season, to add to her long list of academic achievements. These include being named to the Academic All-Conference 1st team in 2009, recognized as a Scholastic All-American in 2009, 2008, and 2007, and was honored as a U of A Academic Champion from 2007-2009. Russell was also named to the Academic All-Conference 2nd team in 2008.

Sarah Tomczyk graduated with a 4.00 in English, as well as earned her teaching certificate for secondary education. To add to the honors, Tomczyk was recently named to the 2nd All-Conference team for vault and bars for the 2010 season. She has also earned many academic accolades throughout her career, including Pac-10 All-Conference Academic Honors, in addition to being recognized as the U of A Academic Champion in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, as well as named a Scholastic All-American in 2008 and 2009. Tomczyk was also named to the Academic All-Conference 2nd team in 2008 and 2009.

Jamie Custer graduated in with an overall GPA of 4.00 in Special Education, Alexis Greene was able to maintain a GPA of 3.86 as a psychology major, and Bree Workman earned a 3.80 in elementary education.

In order to be named a Scholastic All-American, an athlete must maintain a GPA of 3.50 or above.
