TUCSON, Ariz. - Match-ups for the 2009 EA Sports Maui Invitational were released Tuesday, and the University of Arizona men's basketball team will face Wisconsin in the event's first round.
Arizona and Wisconsin will meet in the last game of the day at 7 p.m. HST (10 p.m. MST) on Monday, Nov. 23, at the Lahaina Civic Center. That contest will be televised on ESPN2. Other first-round games include Colorado-Gonzaga (10 a.m. HST), Cincinnati-Vanderbilt (12:30 p.m. HST) and Chaminade-Maryland (4:30 p.m. HST).
The Arizona-Wisconsin winner would play the Colorado-Gonzaga winner in the semifinals on Nov. 24 at 4:30 p.m. HST on ESPN. Losers meet in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. HST on ESPN2.
"This year's tournament showcases another field of outstanding competition," said tournament chairman Dave Gavitt. "We will celebrate the 26th annual Tournament with a powerhouse field. College basketball fans from around the globe can look forward to another remarkable week of basketball at its finest."
2009 marks Arizona's fourth appearance in the Maui Invitational (1993, 1997, 2000, 2005). The Wildcats won the tournament in 2000 and finished as the runners-up in 1993 and 1997. All-time, Arizona has an 8-4 record in Maui Invitational games.
The ESPN family will broadcast all 12 games of the tournament in high definition on either ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD or ESPNU HD. Games broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 also will be streamed live on ESPN360.com.
Arizona opens the 2009-10 campaign under new head coach Sean Miller on Sunday, Nov. 15, in McKale Center against Northern Arizona.
