Sept. 7, 2010

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona men's and women's golf teams will open the 2010 fall golf season in Japan, as the team's fly west for the 2010 Toyo Cup, Sept. 9-11.

Women's Head Coach Laura Ianello will be making her head coaching debut after helping the team win the 2010 Pac-10 Championship and NCAA West Regional to go along with a fifth place finish at the NCAA Championship. Ianello was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year for her efforts as an assistant last year.

Arizona joins Arizona State, Fresno State and Texas A&M on the men's side, and UC Davis' women's squad will also make the trip. The teams will be competing against some of the stiffest competition Japan has to offer, both teams and individuals.

The men's lineup will consist of Philip Bagdade, Jonathan Khan, Tarquin MacManus, Eric Oja and Trent Redfern. Oja, a freshman from Sandevik, Sweden will be making his debut as a Wildcat.

The women's team will trot out the same lineup it used during much of the season last year, including its great postseason run: Isabelle Boineau, Nikki Koller, Alejandra Llaneza, Sherlyn Popelka and Margarita Ramos.

Both squads embark on a four-tournament fall slate before the 2011 spring schedule, in which the bulk of the teams' schedules lie.

The teams will tee off at 8 a.m. JST, the first two rounds, and 7 a.m. for the third round. Tucson time, the rounds will be a day earlier; they begin at 4 p.m., Sept. 8 and 9, and 3 p.m. Sept. 10.
