This Week

The Arizona soccer team 5-7 (0-2) travels to Corvallis, Ore. to play its first Pacific-10 road contest against the Oregon State Beavers 7-5-1 (0-2) on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.? The Cats then travel north to Eugene, Ore. to take on the Oregon Ducks 7-6 (0-2) on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.

Last Week Recap

Over the weekend, the Cats dropped a pair of contests against Washington State and Washington.? On Friday, Arizona fell to Washington State, 3-1, in its Pac-10 opener.?

Washington State got on the board first with a goal by Brooke Bemis at the 18:13 mark of the first half.? The goal came off a deflected shot by teammate Kiersten Dallstream.

Washington State took a 2-0 led with a goal by Dallstream at the 57:42 mark in the second half, again off a deflected shot; 19 seconds later Arizona scored its first goal of the game.? Leila Amini took a rebounded ball and put it past Cougar goalkeeper Brynn Bemis for the goal.? The goal was Aminiˇ?s first of her career.

Washington State put the game away with another goal by Dallstream, off the right goal post, at the 66:42 mark.

On Sunday, the Cats were defeated by Washington, 2-0.? Washington got on the board first with a goal by Shuree Hyatt, her team-leading fourth goal of the year.? Hyatt beat Arizona goalkeeper Danielle Nicolai one-on-one for the goal.

Arizona had opportunities to score late in the first half, but failed to put the ball in the net.? Jasmin Day and Karina Camacho both missed shots high late in the period.

At the 61:22 mark the Huskies scored its second goal, this time it was Hyattˇ?s classmate Robin Alexander who beat Nicolai high and to the right sticking the ball in the corner of the net for her first goal of the year.

The lack of Arizona scoring had nothing to do with the lack of opportunities as Arizona out-shot the Huskies, 15-11.

In 2003, Tobias took over a program that in its nine previous seasons had never had a winning record, and soon he had the Wildcats as contenders in both the Pac-10 and national championship picture.?
