Coach and Player Quotes

Niya Butts - Arizona Head Coach
"First of all, I want to say how extremely proud of our team for battling back. It was a very disappointing outcome. Obviously, you want to win and no one wants to win more than this team or myself and this staff. We dug ourselves into a 24-point hole in the first half and it seemed like there was no life. We believed we could come back and we did. We, unfortunately, had instances where we couldn't recover from - different mistakes at different times. I want to give credit to USC for making shots. They made some plays and that was the difference in the ball game. I thought our team deserved to win and I hate not being able to get the job done for them."

"I think we were much more active in the second half. I think the first half we were just standing around and watching USC play or watching Davellyn play. I think she had 21 points in the first half and we only scored four. So thank god she showed up in the first half. In the second half we started to execute our offense and we started to run a little bit better."

"Ify (Ibekwe) woke up and started to realize there's not a whole lot that people can do with her on the basketball floor. She stepped up and made some big plays and was one of the key reasons we can sit here and talking about being in the game and overtime."

#0 Davellyn White - Freshman Guard
On individual success:
"In the beginning of the game, my jump shot was there so they started running out to me and I could get to the basket a little bit easier. Once I was getting to the basket they didn't know whether to get close or stay far back because I could shoot or drive. My shooting in the beginning of the game helped a lot."

On missed free throw in overtime:
"I was just thinking about it a little too much. I should have just relaxed. It was just a free throw and it kind of got to me. I know I'm ready to be in the same situation again."

#3 Ify Ibekwe - Junior Forward
On what changed individually from half to half:
"My shots weren't falling in the first half and I wasn't as active. I was there but I wasn't as aggressive. I came out in the second half with more intensity and I was active and aggressive."

On growth early in the season:
"I think we've grown a lot. We've become more of a team on and off the court and I think that's a key. We're getting to know each other more on the floor and we're just playing well together.

Michael Cooper - USC Head Coach
Opening statement
"(That game) shows you how competitive our conference is. People talk about the ACC, the Big East, the SEC. The Pac-10 is that and some. To come and get two wins on the road is satisfying but we still have a long way ahead of us."

"Having this team down and them showing the grit and the toughness to play in the Pac-10 conference and come back on us tells a lot about not just Arizona, but also our conference."

About how Arizona made comeback
"I think our defense was on point at the beginning. I think we got away from that and we got a little complacent and lazy on defense. Again, you can't do that against anybody in this conference. When we got our toughness back and started doing the things that got us the lead, that's what got us back in the game."
