TUCSON, Ariz. ?- No. 3 Arizona (11-0) defeated Pacific (2-6), 1-0, in UA’s fifth and final game of the Worth Wildcat Invitational

Alicia Hollowell (6-0) has now thrown complete-game shutouts in each of her half dozen starts this season.  She struck out 11 Tigers, while walking one and scattering four hits over seven innings.  Pacific’s Alyce Jorgensen (1-2) gave up seven hits and one run to the Wildcats in her six innings pitched.

Arizona scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth on a suicide squeeze play.  Kristie Fox led off with a single up the middle and was pinch run for by Kelly Nelson.  Chelsie Mesa doubled to left, moving Nelson to third.  Next, Arizona head coach Mike Candrea put on the squeeze play. Sophomore catcher Callista Balko laid down a nearly perfect drag bunt down the third base line, bringing in Nelson for the game’s first run.  Balko advanced to second, as Pacific did not have anyone covering second base, but UA did not score another run in the inning.

Pacific had runners on the corners in both the sixth and seventh innings, but the rally attempts were promptly squashed by Hollowell.

Arizona next plays in the Palm Springs Tournament next weekend.  Arizona’s five games include contests against Texas and Texas A&M.
