TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona women’s golf team tallied a second even par score of 288 to claim 7th place at the 2009 NCAA West Regional Tournament, Saturday afternoon at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
The Wildcats matched their team total from Thursday’s opening round of 288 to finish at +12 for the weekend at 876. The Cats were just three shots away from 4th place as three teams shared that position. Host Arizona State captured the team title with a 22-under par score of 842.
The best round of the day for the Wildcats was turned in by senior Amanda Wilson. She completed her final regional round with a career-best total of 69 and ended up 7-over for the tournament.
Freshman Nikki Koller shot 70 to complete a 54-hole total of 6-over par 222, sharing that score with rookie teammate Margarita Ramos. The native of Mexico shot a second-straight 75 to finish the tournament.
Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State won the individual title by one shot by shooting 71 on Saturday to end up at 10-under.
By virtue of its top 8 finish, Arizona advances to the NCAA Championships, a 72-hole event that will be held May 20-23 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Maryland.
