Tucson, Ariz. (Feb. 6) - University of Arizona women's soccer player Kelly Nelson has been named to the West Region All-Freshman Team by Soccer Buzz Magazine, the outlet announced on Thursday in its annual awards for Division I women's soccer.

A redshirt freshman forward from Lakewood, Calif., Nelson finished regular season play as the Pac-10 leader in goals scored, with 13. She set a new UA school record in 2002 for goals scored in a single season and tied the school records for most points in a season (27), most game-winning goals in a season (3), most total points in a game (10) and most goals in a game (5). Nelson also earned second team All-Pac-10 laurels.

Voting on the awards was open to all coaches and players at each of the 285 Division I programs, with the Soccer Buzz staff voting as well. For more details on the Soccer Buzz awards, go to
