????????????TUCSON, Ariz. ?C?The top-ranked Arizona baseball team took advantage of some late offense, including four home runs, to rally three different times and finally put away a pesky Sacramento State club, 10-9, at Kindall Field on Sunday.

?

The victory gave the Wildcats their first series sweep of the season and improved them to 5-1 on the year. The Hornets, who had jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first three innings, dropped to 1-5 after a pair of late rallies came up just short in the upset bid.

?

????????????The Hornets roughed up UA starter Ryan Perry for five runs on seven hits in the just 2 2/3 innings of work. The Wildcat right-hander struggled to find a groove, surrendering two doubles, a triple and home run before getting lifted with two outs in the third.

?

????????????Sac Stateˇ?s David Flores touched up Perry for a solo homer in the first and Blake Crosby and Gabe Jacobo chipped in with a run-scoring double and triple, respectively, to help stake the Hornets to the early five-run edge.

?

????????????Left-hander Eric Berger came on for Perry and settled things down for a while, posting zeros in the fourth and fifth to give the offense a chance to get on track.

?

????????????The Wildcat bats, which found nearly every Sac State fielder through the first four innings, broke out with a five-run fifth. Sophomore Robert Abel put the Cats on the board with his first career home run, a two-run shot to left-center, and C.J. Ziegler knotted the game at 5-5 with a three-run shot to left, his first of two fence-busters on the day.

?

????????????Undeterred, the Hornets re-took the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. Leadoff hitter Hunter Martinez delivered the big blow with a one-out, two-run triple to put Sac State back up 7-5 and chase Berger from the game. Left-hander Daniel Schlereth came on and struck out a pair to end the inning and bring the Cats back to the plate.

?

????????????Junior Jon Gaston swung momentum back Arizonaˇ?s way in the bottom of the sixth with a game-tying two-run single and Ziegler blasted his second homer of the day, a two run shot to center, to hand Arizona its first lead at 9-7.

?

????????????The UA edge didnˇ?t last long, as Sac State capitalized on a fielding miscue by Abel at short to even the game in the top of the seventh. Abelˇ?s error extended the inning and paved the way for Brain Boyd to plate a pair with a two-out, two-run double.

?

????????????T.J. Steele then hit a one-out solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to put Arizona back up by one and turn the game over to closer Jason Stoffel. The right-hander retired the side in order in the eighth and worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to close out the victory. The sophomore stranded the tying run at third with a strikeout to claim his third save of the year.

?

????????????Schlereth (1-0) picked up his first win of the season, finishing with three strikeouts and two walks in 1 2/3 innings, while Sac State reliever Chris Baek (0-1) was saddled with the loss after surrendering the go-ahead run on Steeleˇ?s homer.

?

????????????Ziegler, who hit three homers in the weekend series against the Hornets to increase his team-leading total to five for the season, finished Sundayˇ?s contest 2 for 4 with five RBI and pair of runs scored to rally the Cats.

?

Leadoff hitter Diallo Fon continued his torrid start to the season, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored on Sunday. The redshirt sophomore finished the weekend series 4 for 6 (.667) with two doubles, two triples, three walks and five runs scored. For the year, Fon is leading the Wildcat offense with a .714 average and eight runs scored in just two starts and three other games as a reserve.

?

Arizona will take Monday off before returning to action against UNLV on Tuesday. The Wildcats and Rebels will meet up for a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday at Kindall Field. First pitch for Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. with right-hander Mike Colla (1-0) the scheduled starter for the Cats.
