TUCSON, Ariz. - Play was suspended due to darkness Thursday at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego, Calif. Second-round action will resume Friday at 7:30 a.m. PDT. Arizona finished the first round in a tie for 10th place.
With play suspended at 7 p.m. PDT, Arizona was in 11th place, a cumulative seven shots over par. The Wildcats have six holes to finish in round two before the third round begins. Individually, Erik Oja leads the Cats at three-under par and sits in a tie for 17th place.
Host San Diego State currently leads the 16-team field at 22-under par.
Kent State topped the leader board after the first 18 holes with a 17-under 343 total, one shot ahead of North Texas (344). San Diego State (348) and TCU (349) rounds out the top-four places. UA's even-par 360 tally over the opening 18 holes tied the team for 10th place.
Oja was the lone Wildcat to post a score under par in round one, carding a three-under 69 to put him in a tie for 16th place. Teammates Juan Pablo Hernandez and Tucker Wadkins were in a tie for 46th place with first-round 72s (E).
The Barona Collegiate Cup features six players per team with the low five scores counting towards the team total in each round. The event concludes Friday at Barona Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 7,088-yard layout.
