The University of Arizona women's tennis team will advance two singles players to the quarterfinals after the second day of play at the 2011 Pacific-10 Championships. Freshmen Kim Stubbe and Susan McRann will both advance to the quarterfinals of invitational singles play. Senior Jane Huh and the three Wildcat doubles teams fell to tough competition in Ojai, Calif.
In the quarterfinals of invitational singles play, Huh fell to the fourth seeded Alice Duranteau from California, 6-3, 1-6, 6-0. McRann defeated Natalie Dillon from Stanford, 2-6, 6-1, 7-5. The second seeded Stubbe battled Sienna Simmons from Arizona State. The Mol, Belgium native beat Simmons, 6-3, 6-0. In the semifinals, McRann and Stubbe will play eachother at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. In doubles championship play, Stubbe and partner Sarah Landsman took on the third seed team of Noelle Hickey and McCall Jones from UCLA. The Wildcat duo fell 8-4 in the round of 32. Natasha Marks and Lacey Smyth played Venise Chan and Samantha Smith from Washington for an 8-6 win. The duo went on to play the second seeded team of Kaitlyn Christian and Maria Sanchez from USC. Huh and McRann represented Arizona in invitational doubles play. The fourth seeded duo had a bye in the round of 32. In round of 16 play , the team retired because of injury against Stephany Chang and Catie Visico. To view the invitational doubles draw, click here.
