WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona’s three-time All-American center fielder Caitlin Lowe has been named Pac-10 Softball Player of the Week, the Conference office announced Tuesday.

Lowe helped Arizona to a sweep of Missouri by batting .700 (7-for-10), scoring eight runs with four RBI and nine stolen bases in as many attempts.  The Tustin, Calif., native scored multiple runs and had multiple hits in all three games and had a pair of four-stolen base contests.  Lowe’s results are not anomalous to this weekend, as she has now tallied 11 multi-hit games in 17 Arizona contests this year and has scored multiple runs in seven games.

Lowe played a critical role in each of Arizona’s victories this weekend, beginning with Friday’s 5-4 over the Tigers.  After reaching on an error in the third, Lowe stole second and scored from second on a single.  This would be a common theme for the weekend, as she reached on a single again the fifth, stole second and scored on another Wildcat single.  Yet again in the seventh inning, with the game tied 4-4, Lowe led off with a single stole second and third, before scoring the game winning run.

On Saturday, Lowe went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a career-high four RBI, a triple and a stolen base.  She led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and scored on a double.  In the second inning, she came to the plate with the bases loaded, promptly drove three Wildcats home with a bases-clearing triple and would eventually score.  Later in the game she would hit a sac fly for her fourth RBI on the night.

On Sunday, Lowe continued to come to bat and reach base with the opponent knowing what was coming ?- but Missouri was still unable to stop it.  She led off the first with a single, stole second and scored on a single.  The exact same result would happen in both the second and fourth innings, leading to three base hits, there stolen bases and three runs scored.  She would steal one more base for good measure in the sixth after she was walked.

All told, Lowe was involved in 12 of Arizona’s 21 runs on the weekend.

Lowe’s weekend raises her season average to .509 (28-for-55) gives her 21 runs scored and a perfect 22-for-22 stolen bases.  She is currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak.  On Feb. 24 against Texas A&M, Lowe was kept off base all game by an opponent for the first time in 40 games played, dating March 19, 2006.

Her performance had historical implications, as well.  She currently stands tied for third on Arizona’s all-time steals list with 129 SB.  She also cracked Arizona’s illustrious career hits list with 290 career base knocks, tying her with Laura Espinoza.  Earlier in the weekend, Lowe passed Espinoza on the career runs list and currently stands in ninth place with 206 runs scored.

Arizona faces Creighton in a doubleheader tonight at Hillenbrand Stadium before hitting the road and traveling to Baylor for a three-game series this weekend.
