TUCSON--The Arizona soccer team will host Washington and Washington State Friday and Sunday at Murphey Field and Mulcahy Stadium. This weekend's matches will be the first with interim head coaches Lisa Oyen and John Galas at the helm of the program after six and a half year head coach Dan Tobias stepped down earlier this week due to personal reasons.

Last weekend, the Cats traveled to Los Angeles to take on UCLA and USC. Against the Bruins, the Wildcats lost 2-0, and were out shot 17-3. Red shirt senior GK Devon Wharf had 6 goals on the night.

In the 2-0 loss to USC, senior Samantha Drees and sophomore Renae Cuellar led Arizona with 2 shots a piece, and Wharf had another two saves.

About the Huskies: Last weekend, Washington tied 1-1 with conference rivals Washington State. Leading scorer Veronica Perez netted her fifth goal of the season to put the Huskies up 1-0 until the Cougars equalized in the 84th minute. Washington is currently 8-2-2 on the season, and 0-0-1 in conference play.

About the Cougars: Washington State came out of last weekend's matches with a tie and a win. Against conference rival Washington, the Cougars equalized in the 84th minute of play, and both sides went scoreless in two overtimes. Against Seattle, Washington State won 3-2, scoring in the 18th, 71st and 73rd minutes. Friday, the Cougars will take on Arizona State in Tempe at 7pm.

All about the freshmen and sophomores: The Wildcat freshman and sophomores outnumber the juniors and seniors 12-8, with Alex Smith, Brittany Berger, Amy Steiner, Kristin Strother, Renae Cuellar, Karli Hedlund, Itzel Rodriguez, Jessica Culver, Ariel Boulicault, Kristin Magyar, Kat Leibbrandt, and Susan Melendez participating in the seasons' opening matches.

Next up: Up next, the Wildcats will host conference rivals ASU on Friday, October 23 at 7pm at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
