TUCSON, Ariz. (Aug. 28, 2000) -- University of Arizona women's tennis head coach Brad Dancer recently returned from Flushing Meadows, N.Y., where he coached the Delaware Smash in the World Team Tennis title match.

The Smash, led by league MVP Mariaan de Swardt faced the Sacramento Capitals in the finale. The four-player squads battled back and forth, but the Capitals won, 21-20. Despite the loss, Dancer gained valuable experience that he will use at Arizona.

"Team tennis brings out the most pressure filled situations in the sport. The intensity of the format is more fast-paced and adjustments are needed more often. In World Team Tennis you can never lose focus. This mental tenacity is exactly what we try to emulate at Arizona, Dancer said."

The Wildcats kick off the 2000-2001 season Sept. 15-17 at the William and Mary Invitational.
