Arizona Volleyball charged out to a 8-1 record to wrap up non-conference play in its sweep of three teams at the Evansville Dunn Hospitality Invitational on Saturday.
The Wildcats have won six-consecutive matches, with their only loss coming at No. 10 Hawaii.
Arizona began the day with a defeat of Southeast Missouri State, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-18). Freshman Madi Kingdon (Phoenix, Ariz.) led all players in kills with 18 and also added three blocks. Senior Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles) contributed 10 kills and three blocks and sophomore Emily Helm (Queen Creek, Ariz.) had 11 digs.
In the second match of the day, the Wildcats defeated Evansville, 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19). Three players led the Wildcats with double digit kills, as Kingdon had 16, Jackson added 14 and senior Marketa Hanzlova (Liberec, Czech Republic) had 12.
Jackson led all players in blocks with five and freshman Chloe Mathis (La Jolla, Calif.) led in assists with 41.
“It was nice to go 3-0 this weekend,” Arizona head coach David Rubio said. “It was generally a good weekend for us. I was happy with everyone, everyone played well, but we still need to get better.”
Arizona opens its conference season on Friday, Sept. 16 at No. 16 Oregon and Saturday, Sept. 17 at Oregon State. Both matches will take place at 7 p.m. PT.
