TUCSON, Ariz. ?C Arizona womenˇ?s soccer fell to No. 1 UCLA, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

?

The win improves the No. 1 Bruins to 14-1-2 (7-0-0), while dropping the Cats to 6-12-1 (1-6-1).

?

The Bruins got on the board early with a goal by Lauren Cheney, her 19th of the season, eight minutes into the game.? McCall Zerboni and Kara Lang delivered Cheney the ball inside the goal box.? Cheneyˇ?s shot was just out of the reach of Cats goalkeeper Halley Brown, who dove and got a hand on the ball.

?

ˇ?The very thing we wanted to avoid from happening, we allowed to happen and that was an early goal,ˇ± head coach Dan Tobias said.? ˇ?You canˇ?t get down early to the No. 1 team in the nation.ˇ±

?

The Bruins scored again 28 minutes later, this time it was Lang on the receiving end of a pass.? Lang received a pass from Lauren Wilmoth and Christina DiMartino and headed the ball into the goal from the left side.

?

ˇ?Itˇ?s tough enough playing from behind by just one goal, but playing from behind down two goals is even tougher,ˇ± said Tobias.?

?

The Bruins took the 2-0 lead into halftime, but was not satisfied with it; six minutes into the second half the Bruins scored their third and final goal of the game.? Wilmoth received a pass from Kylie Wright and took a shot from outside the goal box, for her first goal of the season.

?

Arizona had opportunties in the second half to score, but could not get any of their four shots by Bruin goalkeeper Valerie Henderson.? The two best opportunities the Cats had to score came late in the game.? Junior forward London King had a shot on goal, but a Bruin defender made the save.? With under a minute to play, senior midfielder Sarah Litt had a header which Henderson barely saved from going in.

?

ˇ?They are a very good team, they have only lost to Texas, ironically, and now have gone 16 games without a loss and thatˇ?s really impressive. ?They are an excellent team and represent our conference well,ˇ± said Tobias.? ˇ?We need to come out next week, in our last home game against our rival ready to play and I think we will.ˇ±?

Up Next: The Cats come home to host the Sun Devils of Arizona State Fri. Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.
