With the win, the Wildcats evened the season series against OSU, and improve to 43-9 overall with a 14-9 clip in the Pac-10.
Alicia Hollowell (23-4) tossed a one-hitter, 14th shutout of the year. The senior from Suisun, Calif., struck out 12 of the 23 Beaver hitters she faced in seven innings.
Hollowell took a no-hitter into the third inning, before OSU’s Lisa Allen broke it up with a single to center. The blemish in the box score did not throw Hollowell off track, as she struck out Vanessa Iapala to end the inning.
Arizona seemed to have chances to score in multiple innings, but was unable to scratch any runs across until the bottom of the sixth.
UA finally broke through in bottom of the sixth to break the scoreless tie, with a Chelsie Mesa RBI double down the left field line, scoring pinch runner Kelly Nelson. Callista Balko reached first with a one-out walk, before having Nelson come in to run for her. Jenae Leles then laid down her second successful sacrifice bunt of the evening, moving Nelson over to second and setting the stage for Mesa’s big hit.
- Caitlin Lowe faced sister Paige (OSU second baseman) for the first time in her collegiate career
