TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona women's golf head coach Shelly Haywood has announced the signing of Haley Andreas to a National Letter of Intent. Andreas will join Arizona for the 2010-11 season.
A native of Pacific Grove, California, Andreas is currently ranked #33 in the Class of 2010 by Golfweek magazine. Last year, she finished 4th in the CIF state championships and recently qualified for another state tournament after finishing second in the CIF-Central Coast Section championships and tied for 7th at the NCGA/CIF Girls Golf High School Championships.
Andreas has also been a very successful junior player, winning several tournaments while also placing in the top five of a number of others. She won the NCGA Junior Championships at Spyglass Hill Golf Club, setting a tournament scoring record of 3-under par while recording a 8-shot victory. She also won the Girls 15-17 division at the NCGA/JGANC Northern California Junior Players Championship.
"Haley is a big hitter, is very athletic and is a very hard worker," said Haywood. "I don't think I've ever signed a player who is more excited to get here and become a Wildcat than Haley. She kind of flew under the radar, but I think she is going to keep improving and surprise a lot of people when she gets here to Arizona."
Under the tutelage of Jeff Fisher, Andreas qualified for the U.S. Junior Girls Amateur this past summer, advancing to the Round of 32. She also captured the AT&T Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions Platinum Girls Division.
Arizona is currently ranked #20 in the latest Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll and is also 20th in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index ratings. The next event for the team will be in Tucson as Arizona hosts the Wildcat Invitational, February 22-23, 2010 at Arizona National Golf Club.
