TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona baseball team, ranked No. 5 in the Baseball America preseason poll, is set to host a series of events this week in the community in advance of the season-opener against North Dakota State on Feb. 17.
Tonight the Wildcats are scheduled to hit the road following practice to personally deliver season tickets to selected season ticket holders. Season ticket sales have soared this season and the Wildcats want to thank their fans in person. More than 600 season tickets have been sold this season, more than a 300-percent increase from previous seasons, and a limited number remain available.
On Wednesday, Feb. 8, head coach Andy Lopez and the Wildcats will host free event for UA students at Hi Corbett Field. "Somewhere in America: Lopez Show". The event is geared toward students who are encouraged to come out to meet the baseball team and learn chants and cheers to use throughout the season in the new designated student section behind the Wildcats' dugout. A bus will pick up students from Old Main at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, Feb. 10, the Arizona baseball team will host a "Meet the Team" night from 5-7 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field. The free event will provide fans an opportunity to meet and get autographs from the Arizona baseball coaches and players. A tour of Hi Corbett Field, including a showcase of the newly renovated baseball clubhouse will also be conducted by baseball players and coaches.
Parking and admission to the event are open to the general public and free of charge. Families are encouraged to bring their kids to meet the players and get an opportunity to run the bases with the Wildcats. Season and single game tickets will be on sale at during the event.
Season, mini-plan and individual game tickets are on sale through the McKale Ticket Office in person, by phone and online. Arizona begins the 2012 season against North Dakota State on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field. The visiting Bison are coached by UA alum Tod Brown.
The season-opening three-game series also coincides with UA's annual Alumni Weekend. This year the Wildcats are honoring former coaches Frank Sancet and Jerry Kindall, along with the 1962 baseball team for its 50-year reunion. A post-game fireworks show will also be featured following the season-opener on Feb. 17.
