TUCSON, Ariz.- The top-seeded Arizona softball team dominated the All-Pacific Region team released on Thursday by taking four the 12 spots on the first team. All four players will be on the ballot for All-America consideration at next week's Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Highlighting the Arizona players is 2004 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year Alicia Hollowell. Joining her on the first team are Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year Caitlin Lowe, designated player Wendy Allen and outfielder Autumn Champion.
Hollowell, a sophomore from Suisun, Calif., will enter Thursday's NCAA opening game against Centenary with a 39-2 record and a 0.65 ERA in 270 innings pitched. She has already struck a school single season record 480 batters this year against just 62 walks. The 2004 first team All-Pacific Region honors is the second in her two-year career.
Lowe, a freshman from Tustin, Calif., garnered her first career all-region honors after batting .458 with 74 runs scored, 47 stolen bases, four home runs and 25 RBI during the regular season. She has also posted a 1.000 fielding percentage as the Wildcats' starting center fielder.
Allen, a senior from Moreno Bay, Calif., was named all-region for the first time in her career after going 9-0 on the mound with a 1.31 ERA, as well as hitting .393 with a team-high 70 RBI, seven home runs and 16 doubles as the starting first baseman.
Champion, a sophomore from Tustin, Calif., picked up her second consecutive all-region honors after a regular season that saw her bat a team-high .482 with 82 hits, 48 runs scored, 24 stolen bases and 18 RBI.
The Wildcats, who are hosting the regional of the 2004 NCAA Championship Tournament this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium, will take on Centenary at 4 pm on Thursday.
