TUCSON--More than four dozen University of Arizona student-athletes will join an official travel party of champions for a visit to the nation's most famous executive residence -- the White House -- next week in Washington, D.C.
Arizona's two national championship teams from 2008, men's and women's swimming and diving, will be part of festivities during which President George W. Bush will make remarks to numerous 2008 NCAA Sports Champions on the South Lawn of the White House Wednesday, Nov. 12 (1:40 p.m. EST).
The contingent of Arizona swimmers will be led by coach Frank Busch and staff, UA athletics director Jim Livengood and senior associate athletic director Kathleen LaRose. The latter two have made a number of such trips, most recently with two UA softball NCAA Championship teams (2006 and 2007) in June 2007.
LaRose said the group will leave Tucson Tuesday and return on Thursday in the quick visit. The party will tour some of the district's numerous monuments and other historical sites while in the capital, she said.
Busch's two teams gave Arizona its 19th and 20th national team titles last March, with the women taking care of business in Columbus, Ohio, and the men bringing home the top hardware from Federal Way, Washington, a week later.
