Stoffel's Career Stats
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Arizona junior pitcher Jason Stoffel has been named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Stoffel, the program’s all-time saves leader, appeared in three games last week and earned two saves in Arizona’s three-game weekend sweep of Michigan.
Last Friday, Stoffel combined with starter Preston Guilmet to shutout the visiting Wolverines, 2-0. Stoffel came on in relief of Guilmet with a runner on second base and no outs in the top of the seventh inning. Stoffel shut down any hopes of a UM comeback, pitching three shutout innings and allowing only one hit to pick up his second three-inning save of the season.
On Saturday, Stoffel again was asked to close the game out against Michigan with UA holding on to a narrow 9-7 lead. The right hander came in with a runner on first and one out in the eighth, but struck out each of the five batters he faced over the next 1.2 innings to earn his fifth save of the season.
On the week, Stoffel pitched 6.1 shutout innings, allowed one hit and struck out 10 batters while issuing only one walk.
Stoffel, who has 23 career saves, has appeared in 11 games for the Wildcats this season. His 1.31 is best on the UA pitching staff and third in the conference to date. He has struck out a team-high 31 batters in 20.2 innings and has allowed opposing hitters to bat just .160 on the season.
The weekly honor is the first for Stoffel and the 40th all-time for an Arizona pitcher.
The Wildcats will open Pac-10 Conference play this weekend as they travel to Arizona State. The three-game series will begin on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
