TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona women's golfer was selected to the NCAA Division I All-American Scholar team, it was released Monday by the National Golf Coaches Association.

Welch, a freshman from Las Vegas, Nev., was one of 297 NCAA Division I, II or III student-athletes honored by the NGCA. To be recognized for this honor, a golfer must have competed in at least 66 percent of the school's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year and maintain a cumulative 3.50 grad point average.

In six tournaments played in 2002-03 (18 rounds), Welch posted a 79.00 stroke average and helped the Wildcats to victory in the NCAA Fall Preview. Her 12-over 228 total, Sept. 15-17 in West Lafayette, Ind., was a season-low and tied her for 28th place. It was one of two top-30 finishes for Welch.

Welch, a political science major, is one of eight returning letterwinners for the Wildcats in 2003-04, who finished seventh at the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
