TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona freshman Rafael Quintero won the 1m dive to lead the Wildcats on day one of the Bruin Diving Invitational at the Spieker Aquatic Center on Friday afternoon.
Quintero ran away with the title by scoring 647.45 in the event, besting Collin Pollard of Cal by more than 40 points. Arizona junior Carter Craft turned in a strong performance as well by placing third with a total score of 589.90. Quintero shined in his last competition by placing first in the platform dive at the Arizona Diving Invitational back on November 18.
Meanwhile, Josh Bidak placed ninth, Dominic Ricotta was 12th, Sean Clark came in 15th and Hayden Sells placed 17th.
On the women’s side, Samantha Pickens led the Wildcats with a solid fourth place showing with a score of 566.05. Haley Ishimatsu of USC won the event with a total score of 654.15. Meanwhile, Ashley Herrera placed 10th with a score of 538.90 and Izzy Diamond rounded out the Arizona scoring in 18th with a score of 461.30.
The three-day invitational will continue tomorrow with the men’s 3m and women’s 1m. The action will take place beginning at 11 a.m.
