Q&A with Mitchell Kapler

If you could play another position what would it be?

If I played another position it would be defensive end, that’s what I was recruited to play.

Who had the greatest impact on your athletic career?

My parents because they always supported me in everything I did athletically. They tried to do anything they could to help me out and get better.

What do you think about Coach Wolford?

I like him because he is really intense, and you can tell that he really loves this game. He was a football player himself, an offensive lineman so he can relate to us on a lot of levels. He is young so it wasn’t that long ago that we was in our shoes. He’s hungry and wants to learn new things, he is always looking for a better way to do things.

What do you think are Arizonas' "keys to success" versus Washington State?

First of all, most importantly is to play with the same kind of effort we have played with in the last two games. Secondly, we must make plays in critical situations. I think that was what killed us the last two games was not making plays in critical situation. If we can cover those two areas than we should come away with a win this Saturday.

What is in you CD player right now?

Pantera, I am not sure what album it is but it is a live one, maybe a greatest hits.

Any pregame rituatls/preparations?

I don’t have any rituals; I just try to keep things consistent, trying to keep calm. I try to review the plays we are going to run that week, and visualize the plays. I do a lot of visualization prior to the game.

How you think Coach Edmond has helped you physically?

I feel like I am in really good shape right now. Throughout the summer and even through the weeks I sat out he gave me a lot of one on one attention. We did a lot of things to make sure that when I did come back that I was as in shape as the rest of the guys. He has done a lot of things to help me out individually and I think he did a really good job with the rest of the team.

Who was your favorite player growing up and why?

When I was a kid I liked Bo Jackson, and the reason was because he played both football and baseball and that is what I wanted to do. I was too big to play pee-wee football so I played a lot of baseball as a kid. Shortly after there was Deion Sanders who also did both, but I never liked him, Bo Jackson was quieter and meaner than he was.

So you like the silent warrior type?

Yeah, I like guys who speak through their actions. I like the type that doesn’t talk a whole lot but gets the job done. I think most of the time when people talk it’s a lot of insecurity they have, they have to make up for the athletic ability they don’t have some how.

What is your favorite movie?

I really like Snatch, I like movies that are different. I like Pulp Fiction and Natural Born Killers.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Tucson?

I use to go to New York Burrito a lot when they had different owners, now I like Sushihama. They have all you can eat Sushi and it is for $20.00, a little expensive but well worth it because you can get anything you want and as much of it as you can eat!

Any last thoughts or shout outs?

As I said before my family has been a big part of my success and I they helped me out a lot through the good times and bad times. I really appreciate all their help they have given me. I also want to send a shout out to Brett Fisher at Fisher Sports, he really had a key role in helping me recover from my injury both mentally and physically. He is a real good person in the rehabilitation industry and did a lot for me.
