This Week

The Wildcat women's tennis team continues play at the Riviera All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif. In the first round of the pre- qualifying singles bracket Sunday, sophomore Marie-Pier Pouliot fell to Urska Juric of Missouri, 6-2, 6-2. Pouliot teamed up with fellow sophomore Dianne Hollands in pre-qualifying doubles play. The duo was defeated in the first round by Duke's Katie Granson and Julia Smith, 8-1. Wildcat junior Debbie Larocque and sophomore Dianne Hollands begin competition in the qualifying singles bracket on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Sophomore Maja Mlakar begins main-draw singles play on Thursday, Oct. 10. Also on Thursday, Mlakar teams up with Debbie Larocque for main-draw doubles play.

Last Week

The Arizona women's tennis team competed in the Rice Tennis Classic in Humble, Texas, on Sept. 27-29. In the top-flight singles bracket, sophomore Dianne Hollands upset No. 13-ranked Maja Mlakar, 6-4, 6-3, to claim first place. Junior Debbie Larocque won the consolation bracket in top-flight singles play, defeating LBSU's Lindsey Marvel, 6-2, 6-2. In the second flight of singles play, sophomore Kelly Perry claimed fifth place by defeating LBSU's Claudia Argumedo, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Marie-Pier Pouliot fell to Karen Chao of Lee College, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. In the third flight of singles action, freshman Kristy Randono defeated Lee College's Christina Mancheno 6-0, 6-2, to claim fifth place. In doubles action, Arizona's fourth-ranked duo of Mlakar and Larocque was upset by Minnesota's Valerie Vladea and Michaela Havelkova, 8-6. Hollands and Pouliot defeated Nischela Reddy and Jeanette Cluskey of Minnesota, 8-3, to claim third place. Perry and Randono captured third place in the consolation bracket by defeating Minnesota's Cici Anderson and Kandis Batiste, 8-0.

The Cats will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the Region XIII Championships, on Oct. 24-28.
