Wildcats Continue At Home With North Texas

TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcats and the North Texas Mean Green will continue the 2010-11 season with a contest at McKale Center on Tues., Dec. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.

"We just have to take it one game at a time," head coach Niya Butts said. "It's certainly nice to be back at home. Our next game is hosting a very athletic, physical team, and we're going to have to do a lot better on defense. We can't defend like we did in the first half today. North Texas is going to be well prepared and coming in to knock us off at home. I know we will be ready to face them."

The Arizona Wildcats and the North Texas Mean Green will meet for the first time on Tuesday. The Mean Green however has played in the McKale Center twice before. North Texas took part in the Fiesta Bowl Classic in 2002 hosted by Arizona. The Mean Green lost to Illinois on December 7, 92-68 and then defeated UC-Riverside, 82-66 the following day.

The Wildcats moved to 7-2 with a 71-59 win over the New Mexico State Aggies on Sunday. Soana Lucet, with 15 points, was Arizona's leading scorer. Ify Ibekwe dominated the glass with 14 rebounds, including nine defensively. She also pitched in with eight points. Arizona out-rebounded New Mexico State, 49-31, with 31 boards coming on defense. Junior Shanita Arnold dished out seven assists and Lucet blocked three shots.

The North Texas Mean Green are 3-9 overall and 0-7 on the road to start the season. Their wins have come over Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State and Nicholls State. Denetra Kellum and Jasmine Godbolt lead the Mean Green with 16.3 and 14.3 points per game, respectively. Godbolt also leads at the glass with 8.5 rebounds per game.

Arizona is one game into a five-game homestand which will continue with the North Texas Mean Green on Dec. 21, the Iona Gaels on Dec. 28, the Oregon Ducks on Dec. 31 and the Oregon State Beavers on Jan. 2. The homestand started with a win over New Mexico State on Dec. 19. The Wildcats will open up Pac-10 Conference play In McKale Center on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.
