HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Arizona's women's golf team stands in sixth place after the second round of the Golf World Invitational on Saturday. The Wildcats shot a 6-over-par 294 and are at 590 for the tournament. Despite shooting two shots better than its first round total, Arizona fell from fourth place to sixth place.
Freshman sensation Lorena Ochoa continues to lead the way for the top-ranked Wildcats. Ochoa shot a second round of one-under-par 71 and is at 139 (-5) for the tournament. Ochoa, rated No. 1 by the Collegiate Golf Foundation, stands tied for second place with Candie Kung of Southern California.
Natalie Gulbis, the other half of the Wildcat's stellar freshman class, shot even par in round two to finish the day tied for 15th. Senior Christelle Cuzon is tied for 33rd after shooting a second round of 74 to bring her two-day total to 150. Junior Cristina Baena, who has finished all three of the Wildcats' tournament this season in the top 10, carded a second round of 77 and is tied for 47th. Also scoring for Arizona is senior Christina Monteiro, who is in 60th place after a second round 89.
Auburn and Duke share the tournament lead at 582, while Young-A Yang of Tennessee holds the individual lead with rounds of 69 and 68 and is seven strokes under par.
Action at the Golf World Invitational wraps up tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. EST tee-off. The Wildcats will look to earn their third tournament championship and first comeback victory of the season.
