The Arizona Wildcats have entered into a a two-for-one agreement to play three football games against the Toledo Rockets beginning in 2008 and concluding in 2012. The Wildcats will host Toledo in 2008 on Sept 6, travel to Ohio in 2010 and then host the Rockets for a final time in 2012.
"I've wanted to get back there (Ohio) at some point to play," Arizona head coach Mike Stoops said. "And we got a two-for-one out of the deal. They're a good program and it'll be a good game. They've been a bowl team the last three years and I think it will be some good games."
The agreement helps firm up the future schedule for the Wildcats, one that includes a return non-conference contest with BYU next season in Provo, Utah, as well as future non-conference contests with former WAC rival New Mexico.
"We're excited to enter this agreement with Toledo," Arizona Director of Athletics Jim Livengood said. "They have a proven track record over the years and have appeared in a number of recent bowl games. While it is a bit off in the future, we're looking forward to hosting them here in the Southwest in 2008 and 2012, and getting back into the Midwest in 2010."
Arizona has faced Toledo once in school history, defeating the Rockets 23-10 in Tucson to open the 1985 season. The match-up with the Mid-American Conference school in 2008 will be just fourth for Arizona against a school from the MAC, and the first since squaring off against Eastern Michigan in 1988. All-time the Wildcats are 3-0 against MAC schools.
