20070220 Guilmet Named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week

<P><FONT size=2>WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona sophomore </FONT><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222520"><FONT size=2>Preston Guilmet</FONT></A></A><FONT size=2> has been named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday. </FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Guilmet out-dueled Cal State Fullerton preseason All-American Wes Roemer last Friday in Arizona&rsquo;s 2-1 win over the Titans. The right-hander tied his career high with nine strikeouts against just one walk, while surrendering an unearned run on five hits over 7 2/3 innings. Guilmet struck out the first four Titan batters he faced in the contest on the minimum of 12 pitches and retired seven of the first 10 outs in the game on strikes. </FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Guilmet, who went eight hitless innings in his 2007 debut against Gonzaga and was named the <EM>Collegiate Baseball</EM>/Louisville Slugger National Pitcher of the Week in doing so, is 2-0 for the year with a 1.23 ERA in 22 innings of work. He has 17 strikeouts this year against just four walks and limited the opposition to a .151 batting average against him.</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>The league honor is the first in Guilmet's career at Arizona, the 34th all-time for a Wildcat pitcher and the second for a UA player this season (</FONT><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222519"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=222519"><FONT size=2>Brad Glenn</FONT></A></A><FONT size=2>, Player of the Week, Feb. 13).</FONT></P> <P><FONT size=2>Arizona will head back out on the road this weekend for a three-game series against UNLV in Las Vegas. Guilmet is the scheduled started for the Wildcats in the series opener on Friday.</FONT></P>
