Wildcats Ranked No. 2 in Preseason Golf Rankings

The University of Arizona women's golf team is ranked No. 2 in the MasterCard Collegiate Women's Golf Preseason rankings, which were released today. Duke, which is the defending national champion, is the preseason No. 1 pick. The Wildcats return five of their top-six golfers from last year's team that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships and placed second at both the Pacific-10 Conference and NCAA West Regional Championships.

Arizona senior Jenna Daniels, who enters the 1999-2000 season with 11 top-10 finishes in her past 17 tournaments, is ranked No. 2 in the individual preseason poll. She was a first team All-American last year and finished the season as the nation's No. 4 ranked golfer after winning the NCAA West Regional title and finishing in a tie for seventh at the NCAA Championships. Duke's Beth Bauer is the preseason No. 1 choice.

The Wildcats also had two others golfers ranked in the preseason top-25, senior Jill Gomric (No. 20) and sophomore Cristina Baena (No. 22).

Arizona will open the 1999 fall schedule on Sept. 13-15, at the NCAA Preview in Sun River, Ore.
