TUCSON - Head coach Laura Ianello, assistant coach Derek Radley and the University of Arizona women's golf team announced the addition of sophomore Patricia Garcia to the roster for the 2013 spring season.
"Patricia Garcia is an excellent addition to our team," head coach Laura Ianello said. "She brings a lot of international and collegiate experience to our squad. We've had a lot of competition on our roster this fall and I think she only adds to it. We are excited for Patricia to join the Wildcat family."
Garcia joins the Wildcats as a true sophomore from Texas A&M University. She is a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and a graduate of Colegio Maristas.
She played in one tournament this fall, placing tied for 32nd at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate. As a freshman in 2011-12, Garcia posted the team's third-best scoring average of 75.53 and had five top-25 finishes. She helped the Aggies to a top-20 finish and placed 63rd at her first NCAA Championships.
At Colegio Marista, she was a three-year letter winner in golf, earning all-state honors as a senior and was the state tournament champion in 2010 and 2011. Leading her team to a state championship as a senior, she was the first girl to win the gold medal competing against boys. She is a three-time Puerto Rico Women's Amateur Champion.
The Wildcats will open the spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 11-13, in Palo Verdes, Calif.
