            Prouty’s 66 keys second-round leap up leaderboard

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot a seven-under 281 total Thursday at the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Club in Wahaiwa, Hawaii.

 

Two players posted rounds in the 60s as the Wildcats 36-hole total of 575 (-1) placed the team in ninth place.  UA moved seven spots up the leaderboard following Thursday’s second round.

 

UNLV carded a 22-under 554 total to lead the 22-team field by 10 strokes.  Brigham Young (564), Texas A&M (569) and San Diego State (569) rounded out the top-four places.

 

The Wildcats were led by a pair of players, as Brian Prouty and Creighton Honeck each posted rounds in the 60s to fuel UA’s move.  Prouty fired a six-under 66 Thursday to move into a tie for eighth place at 139 (-5).  Honeck shot a three-under 66 and moved into a tie for 43rd place at 145 (+1).

 

UNLV’s Jarred Texter and SMU’s Frank Wrenn lead the 123-man field by two strokes at 10-under 134 totals.

 

Nicholas Park and Nathan Tyler both carded one-over 73 totals Thursday and stand in a tie for 54th place and 68th place, respectively.  Josh Esler is tied for 77th place at 149 (+5).

 

UA senior Ben Marsh is competing in the field as an individual.  He is tied for 25th place at one-under 143.

 

The 54-hole John Burns Intercollegiate continues through Friday at Leilehua Golf Club, a par 72, 6,918-yard layout.
