Former Wildcat Dee-Dee Wheeler Signs With Houston Comets

Tucson, Ariz. ?- Former Arizona All-American point guard Dee-Dee Wheeler has signed a training camp contract with the Houston Comets of the WNBA, and will join the Comets for their April 22 camp.


Wheeler, who lettered at Arizona from 2002-05, was an Associated Press and Kodak honorable mention All-American as a senior, and finished her career as Arizona’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,966 points. She also ranks first in the Wildcat career record books in games started (118), minutes played (4,032), minutes per game average (32.5) and steals (304), and ranks in the Top 10 in 14 other statistical categories.


In the 2005 WNBA Draft, was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks as the 26th overall pick in the second round. She was the Sparks’ first pick of the 2005 draft and Arizona’s highest-ever draft pick.


Earlier this year, Wheeler played in Bulgaria's Women's Basketball First Division for Club Lukoil Neftochimik in Bourgas, helping the team to first-place in the league standings.  She averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.7 steals per game. In the Cup of Bulgaria, she had 11.0 points and 5.5 assists in two games, and earned the individual award as the Cup's top point guard for posting the most assists during the Final Four in Pernik.
