Four of six matches went three sets along the way to the Gaels of Saint Mary&rsquo;s College upsetting the No. 48 Arizona Wildcats 4-1.</FONT></FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Junior </FONT><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80014"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80014"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Bruno Alcala</FONT></A></A><FONT face=Arial size=2> provided <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> with its first, and only, point of the match by quickly dismantling freshman Andrea Zannoni in straight sets 7-5, 6-1, remaining unbeaten on the season with an overall record of 3-0. The match was leveled at one-apiece after <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State>&rsquo;s Ravid Hezi was unable to defeat Andre Sion in a match-up of left-handed baseliners at the No. 2 spot.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Breaking the tie was Saint Mary&rsquo;s Yury Platonov against </FONT><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80018"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80018"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Francois VanderMerwe</FONT></A></A><FONT face=Arial size=2>. VanderMerwe won the first set 6-3, but then had difficulty capitalizing on points at the net. A costly double-fault at eight-all in the tiebreaker allowed Christner to serve out the final point, granting him a one set lead. The second set was equally close, reaching another tiebreaker. In this one, Zimmer fell behind 5-1. During the changeover, Christen&rsquo;s match went final, which meant if Zimmer lost two more points the team match would be over. In an amazingly clutch performance, Zimmer reeled off 6 points in a row, sending the match into a decisive third set.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2>At the No. 6 position, freshman </FONT><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=235320"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=235320"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Alex Labrosse</FONT></A></A><FONT face=Arial size=2> was attempting to complete his own comeback against senior Adam Fauvre. After dropping the first set 7-5, Labrosse managed to dominate the second 6-0 and even the match. Down 3-0 in the third, Labrosse once again found a way to fight back and level the score at three-all. Fauvre was able to break Labrosse&rsquo;s serve, however, and secured the victory for Saint Mary&rsquo;s 6-4.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2>Zimmer&rsquo;s match with Christner and the scheduled doubles matches were unable to be completed due to inclement weather.</FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><o:p><FONT face=Arial size=2> </FONT></o:p></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT face=Arial size=2>The Wildcats have the next week off, but will resume action Saturday, Feb. 3.
